Tar Heel Post

The 2011 ACC football schedule was released today, and now football fans cannot wait for fall. We have a long ways to wait.

Here are a few thoughts on the schedule:
  1. The schedule looks to be much easier than last year without a team like LSU on the schedule and the non-division conference games are much easier. The Heels will not have to face FSU this season who will likely be the pre-season favorite to win the ACC.
  2. A big key is that the Heels first three games are at home. They have a presumably easy game against James Madison, Virginia Tech may not agree, for the first game of the season. They then have their home match-up with a Rutgers team who recruited very well, against North Carolina, this past season. The last of the home-stand games, baseball term, will come against an up-and-coming Virginia Cavaliers team. It will be the first ACC match-up for the Heels, and a chance to get started on the right foot.
  3. Road games include Georgia Tech (got to be able to stop the option, Tech losing Nesbitt should help), East Carolina (Greenville will be rocking), N.C. State (got to beat them this year), Clemson (make or break for Dabo Swinney), and the game mentioned in my next point.
  4. Virginia Tech at Blacksburg. Prime-time. Thursday night Nov. 17.  Next to last game of the season. Coastal Division possibly on the line. Need I say more.
  5. The only non-conference game not mentioned, yet, is against Louisville. The Cardinals are the replacement team after Tennessee paid their way out of a series with North Carolina. What a rematch that would have been.
  6. The Heels finally get to face Wake Forest in the first meeting between the two schools since 2007. Wake should be improved from last year, but you can not help but think this game makes the schedule easier.

While it might be nice to think that there are good social reasons for doing so the reality is that for many with capital to allocate, an allocation to government debt is in some ways mandatory
